How this unique travel & adventure business serves the backpacker community using the Booking plugin & it’s addons

Started by British backpacker, Nikki Scott, South East Asia Backpacker was created as “a travel diary for everyone”. Almost 10 years since that first magazine was printed, Nikki and her boyfriend, Dave are working to recreate the concept of a printed magazine into a supportive online community of backpackers who share their knowledge with others!

They have been using our Booking & Appointment plugin on their websites South East Asia Backpacker and South America Backpacker since June 2019. It has helped them to get rid of unwanted costs involving external tools as well as speed up their bookings website.

Apart from helping the backpacker community, they allow their readers to book adventures & tours to Latin America and South East Asia from their site. They plan trips, book handpicked adventures, and assist with honest travel advice to their customers.

We caught up with Dave over email to ask for his experience with our Booking & Appointment plugin, Partial deposits addon & the Seasonal Addon.

1) What sort of problem have you solved with our plugins?

I was using another bookings plugin that was not compatible with caching. We had to disable caching altogether on our shop pages, which, of course, slowed them down. I was also using Zapier to add the bookings to a Google calendar through an extremely long-winded process that was costing $20 per month in zaps! On top of that, we were using another deposits plugin that repeatedly needed attention. Again, the Tyche Softwares option did the job much better.

2) How did using the plugins changed your business?

Everything was much tidier when we moved over to Tyche Softwares. The order emails being sent to customers were much neater and there was just a sense that things were working first time instead of requiring extra work. Not to mention the fact that our sites ran faster

3) Was there any measurable impact from the moment you started using a plugin of ours till know – growth percentage, the monetary increase over time?

There was an impact on the time we were spending working out what needed to be fixed, which meant we were able to get on with more important things. And, as mentioned above, there was a speed boost on shop pages.

4) Did you use any of the extensions in a fun, experimental way that you’d like to share with us?

I’d like to give an entertaining answer to this, but I’m afraid I can’t. I could be tempted to use the seasonal pricing add-on to give myself a bonus on bookings made for my birthday, but I suspect that wouldn’t be great for business…

5) Anything else which you would like to share with us.

Just how pleased I am with the company every time I need to get in touch with them about anything. Whenever I have had an issue, it’s been fixed extremely quickly. More than once, I’ve contacted them asking about certain functionality only to find that a week later they release an update with that functionality included. They have always shown themselves to be accommodating and well-deserving of our custom. I can’t recommend them enough!

To Summarise

Travel and Tourism industry has seen an unprecedented impact this year. Both Nikki & Dave are positive enough to open up a couple of trips at both their locations in the near future.
