How to setup delivery date & time settings for different shipping methods?

This post discusses on how to setup delivery date & time settings for different shipping methods with the Order Delivery Date Pro for WooCommerce plugin.

This feature is released today in the plugin’s latest update, v 3.0.

It allows you to create different delivery date & delivery time settings for each of the enabled shipping methods on your WooCommerce store.

In v 3.4 we’ve included the ability to create different delivery date & time settings for different product categories.

And in the last update v 3.5 we’ve decided to add the ability to create different delivery date & time settings for the shipping classes added for the shipping zones from Table Rate Shipping plugin.

Now let’s return to the beginning.
How to setup delivery date & time settings for different shipping methods with the Order Delivery Date Pro for WooCommerce plugin.

Setting up

The settings for different shipping methods have to be configured under Order Delivery Date -> Settings by Shipping methods tab in admin.

Step 1:  Default view of Settings by Shipping methods tab

This is how the Settings by Shipping methods tab looks by default when no settings have been created.

Step 2: Enable delivery date & time settings for shipping methods

We need to first select the Enable shipping method based Delivery Date and Time Settings checkbox. This helps to identify if the delivery date & time settings for different shipping methods is enabled or not.

Once the checkbox is selected, click on Save Settings button which will enable the delivery by shipping methods.

This is how the page will be displayed once the Shipping based delivery checkbox is enabled.

Step 2: Add delivery date & time settings for shipping methods

Click on “click here” link in the note which will redirect you to the page to add the delivery date & time settings for your shipping methods.

This is how the page for adding settings will be displayed.

This page merges all the settings on the individual settings tabs like Date Settings, Time Settings, Holidays, Delivery Dates and Time Slot. They are separated into different sections for each delivery type.

Step 3: Setup delivery date & time settings for shipping methods.

Select the shipping method for which settings needs to be made from the Shipping methods drop down. You can select multiple shipping methods from the drop down.

Select the settings for the above shipping methods from individual section and click on Save Settings button on the Add page. Once the settings are saved they will be displayed under Settings by Shipping methods tab like this:

Step 4: Edit/Delete already added delivery date & time settings for shipping methods.

Edit settings for shipping methods:

You can click on the edit icon under the Actions column in the table of the settings displayed on the tab. It will redirect you to the page to add the settings with the populated settings added for the shipping methods.

Delete settings for shipping methods:

You can click on the cancel icon under the Actions column in the table of the settings displayed on the tab to delete the already added settings. It will show a confirm box to delete the setting before proceeding to delete the setting.

Some key notes:
  1. If the Enable Delivery Date checkbox is disabled under Date Settings tab and  Shipping based delivery checkbox is enabled under Settings by Shipping methods tab, then the Delivery date selection on the checkout page is disabled. The Enable Delivery Date checkbox under Date Settings tab should be enabled along with the Shipping based delivery checkbox to allow delivery date selection on the checkout page.
  2. If the settings for a shipping method are not added under the Settings by Shipping methods tab, then the default settings added under the individual settings tabs will be enabled on the checkout page.
  3. If the Shipping based delivery checkbox is disabled. It will not allow you to add the settings based on the shipping methods. So, in order to enable delivery based on the shipping methods, enable the Shipping based delivery checkbox.
  4. If the Enable Delivery Date checkbox is disabled for a shipping method under Settings by Shipping method tab, then the Delivery date selection is disabled on the checkout page even if the Enabled Delivery Date on the Date settings tab is enabled. Using this option, you can hide the field for certain shipping methods, for example Local Pickup.
Conclusion

This is basic information on how the new feature works. All the individual settings on that page are the same that are available in the different tabs. We will be writing more about this in the coming days.

We have been wanting to add this feature to the plugin since a long time. It’s very exciting to finally see this becoming a reality.

Go ahead and update to the version 3.0 of Order Delivery Date for WooCommerce Plugin for setting up the delivery date & time settings for different shipping methods.

Hi, Tychesoftwares,

If I use this option, do I have to uncheck the “enable” boxes in the other tabs?

Hi Nils,

Yes, you can uncheck those enable boxes if you are using those same settings for each of the shipping methods. Like if you are going to use different holidays for each shipping method, then you can disable the checkbox in the “Holidays” tab and instead add your holidays for your shipping methods in the “Settings by Shipping Methods” tab.

Okay.
I will uncheck those boxes, because I have old data in the “single delivery” tabs. But it is nice to have all the Holidays under 1 tab. That also makes it understandable for my client!

can I set this plugin so it only works for local pick up, and not other shipping methods?

Yes, you can set it up so it will only show for the Local Pickup shipping method & not for other shipping methods.

Hi, When I activate settings by shipping method, the calendar disappears from the checkout page. I read your key notes carefully. I have the regular date settings activated and the settings by shipping method activated. Any help appreciated.
